A Perfect Afternoon

Yesterday we had one of those peaceful afternoons that remind me why I love homeschooling.  Just living life, enjoying each other, and spending time learning together is what makes all the fights over math, struggles with spelling, and frustrations with sight words all worthwhile.

It was cold and gray yesterday, a reminder that winter is on its way.  It was a perfect day for reading.  We made a trip to the library, then came home to prepare the perfect setting for spending the afternoon lost in our books.

Big, comfy pillows, snacks, hot tea, and good books.  Well, I don't know if Barbie's adventures qualify as intellectual prose, but we will go with it.
We took turns reading aloud parts of our books that were funny or interesting.
Curlyjo gave us the low down on the trials of being a Pioneer.
I shared a wonderful prayer by St. Francis of Assisi.
Tiny Love flipped around all over the floor and ate copious amounts of grapes.
It was wonderful.

Good for the mind, good for the soul.
I will depart for now, leaving you with a little inspiration.

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace!
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that
I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For

It is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen"

St. Francis of Assisi

  1. Looks like a precious afternoon. We might have to try that here, minus the drinks. Baby would love to pour them all over the floor.
